This website is strictly user created. It’s not the most attractive website, in that you won’t find much in the way of graphics or layout (consider this site on of the only exceptions to the rules in that regard).
The premise of the site is an online front page. The main page is constantly updated with new links, discussions and information. Users log on and share content. Other users vote on content that liked and it moves up the list.
At the very least it’s an entertaining way to waste a few minutes or hours…. Reddit is broken up into several different categories that you can comment on. Each of these categories (affectionately termed subreddits) has their own rules.
This website can be really effective in establishing yourself as an expert in a field. For example: There are categories such as politics, animals, technology etc. Click on the topic you want (across the top of the page) and scroll through the conversations. Feel free to comment on any subtopic you feel inclined to.
You can also start your own subtopic. You want these to get noticed. The more popular they are, the higher up they move on the page and the more people who see them. The higher up they go, the longer people can see them.
If you want to create successful posts remember to:
-Create good headlines. “Read this now!” will just get people annoyed. This is the first thing people will see and if you want people to read what you have inside you need to make people want to click on it.
-Follow the rules. Rule breaking (posting in the wrong category, posting about taboo topics, spamming etc.) is a big don’t. Although the content is user generated and, for the most part, completely controlled by users, moderators will delete or edit comments or posts that don’t fit. On top of that, if the other readers get irritated with your antics, your post will be nothing but a blip in history.
-Post frequently. The more often you post the more “karma” you earn. While this does exactly nothing to jack your posts higher up on the lists, it does increase you reputation. The better reputation the more likely people are to read and comment on your posts.
-You can submit links to your own site. But, don’t overdo it and don’t vote on your own links.
Use this site like other social networking sites. Follow the rules, participate and don’t spam.
