As a small business you are very aware that making every penny count make or break your business some months. You have to use every dollar and make it work. Online marketing, (particularly your website, social media and affiliate marketing) goes a long way to saving you a lot of money. How?
Your website: Yes, there are generally fees for hosting a website. If you want to buy your domain name (and you really should) it’ll cost you. But it’s often a one-time fee or a moderately priced annual premium. It’s worth every penny.
Aside from the cost of hosting your website you can do nearly everything else for little or no cost. You can create the content, design the website and run the website from your own space. If you are particularly thrifty you can even just host a blog for free (there are limitations to what you can do here).
Having a website is nearly a necessity nowadays. If customers want information, 90 percent of the time they will look to see if you have a website first. If you don’t they may move on to someone else who does have a website.
This low-cost marketing tool is like a giant advertisement for your company and you control the content. It’s brilliant and it’s affordable.
Social Media: My new favorite word is FREE. Social media is free. You can pay for premium accounts or priority placement but even these fees are generally manageable. You don’t have to pay to have a business page on Facebook. Use this page to engage your customers, earn their trust and schmooze them into utilizing your company.
Over half of all social media users log in at least once a day. This means that you can reach a giant portion of your customer base on a daily basis for free. Plus, customers on social media choose to follow or pay attention to your content. This means you are nearly guaranteed to hit your target audience with the messages you want them to have. You cannot buy that in a newspaper.
Affiliate marketing: This is really affordable with most web hosts charging pennies per click on your advertisement. It can add up, but only if a lot of people are clicking on your link, and that means you are getting results.
Affiliate marketing doesn’t cost much but it helps you reach a wider-spread target audience with little fuss or fanfare.
You can actually earn money from affiliate marketing too. Host advertisements on your website for alliance companies and you can make residual income (not a lot, but typically enough to pay for your own marketing on another site).
E-mail: This form of online marketing nearly guarantees that your message gets directly to the inbox of your customers. Assuming you create good content and you are marketing to people who want to be marketed to, e-mail marketing can be particularly prosperous with a very low overhead.
While you will often have to pay a fee for special marketing consideration, the results are worth it. With so many people accessing the internet and tuning into social media sites you can reach a much larger percentage of your target audience. When you do pay, you are definitely getting your money’s worth.
